Building Essential Skills Daily with Our Comprehensive School Readiness Program

Our School Readiness Program
Foxdale Kindergarten’s Daily School Readiness Program is a structured, ongoing initiative that prepares children for their transition to primary school across three critical dimensions: educational readiness, social competence, and emotional maturity. Rather than treating school readiness as a checklist of skills to be taught in the final months before kindergarten, this program is embedded into daily activities throughout the year for kindy and preschool-aged children.
Educational Readiness:
The program develops pre-literacy skills such as letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and early writing through the Daily 12 Books program and other intentional activities. Pre-numeracy concepts including counting, number recognition, patterns, shapes, and basic mathematical thinking are introduced through play-based experiences that make abstract concepts concrete and engaging.
Social Readiness:
Children learn to function effectively in group settings, follow multi-step instructions, take turns, share resources, resolve conflicts appropriately, and collaborate with peers. These social skills are essential for classroom success and are developed through structured group activities and facilitated play experiences.
Emotional Readiness:
The program helps children build independence in self-care tasks (toileting, eating, dressing), develop resilience and perseverance when facing challenges, manage their emotions in constructive ways, and build the confidence needed to separate from caregivers and engage in a school environment. Educators regularly communicate children’s progress to parents, ensuring families understand their child’s developmental journey and can support school readiness at home. The program culminates in children who enter primary school not just with academic skills, but with the social-emotional foundation and confidence needed to thrive in their new learning environment.
A Place for Every Child
For families with children who have specific dietary requirements, allergies, or cultural food preferences, the centre works collaboratively to ensure every child can participate safely in mealtimes while having their individual needs respected and accommodated.
